Home and Garden Remedies on a Budget
There is no need to spend a fortune to fresh up the look of your home and garden. By following some simple tips and tricks and adding plenty of imagination, you can decorate without breaking the bank.

Painting is probably the most economical way to provide a fresh air to your decor. Give interest to a wall by choosing an accent color that blends with your furniture and accent moldings by painting them in a contrasting color. You can also add special effects through the use of faux finishes. If you are on a budget, there is no need to buy an expensive type of painting. To build your palette, you must first determine a starting point. Use the color of the furniture and accessories you already own, whether the upholstery of an armchair or a sofa, curtains, rug or a painting. Analyze your colors and choose one that is either neutral or contrasting with the existing décor. Remember that the colors you choose need not be identical to those that serve you as a point to start. Just make sure they belong to the same family. If you prefer neutral tones, trying to adapt them to the neutral tones of the pattern you have chosen to inspire you. The important thing is to start from a base that you like.

Dress up your windows
Window coverings are a key element in decoration. Do not overlook this point even if your budget is limited. An appropriate curtain can transform the mood of a room. A cheap fabric or a simple curtain can be of great effect if they are in harmony with the rest of the decoration. Keep in mind that the dimensions and the hanging of curtains can change the look of a window. For example, by exceeding the curtains on the wall or by letting them graze the ground, a window can appear highlighted and larger.

Cover your floors
Decorating on a budget does not mean you should settle for a hideous rug or ceramic tiles that do not harmonize with your colors. Be aware that most of the floor covering can be painted successfully. The secret lies in the application of three coats of urethane over paint. Again, faux finishes offer many possibilities of textures and patterns that will stimulate your imagination. Mats can also be a low budget solution to mask a floor covering that is of little interest. The selection available on the market is huge and the prices can suit all budgets.

There is nothing more depressing that a large bare wall. Hang pictures, photos or anything else on the walls is an economical way to decorate the house. Determine the style you want for your decor. You can then easily select subjects, colors and frames that are harmonized with the overall decor. Black and white photos grouped on a wall are well suited to a contemporary interior, while floral illustrations accentuate the rustic style of a room. Identify where you want to see a work. This way, you will have a better idea of appropriate size. Do not forget the mirrors: well positioned, they can enlarge a small space or illuminate a dark room.

Accessories punctuate the decor and help creating a beautiful atmosphere for any room. They also reveal your personality. Again, no need to spend a fortune to find interesting objects. You can play with cushions, throws, books, plants, collections and even flowers. Beware, however, of going overboard. Too many accessories can give an impression of disorder. The important thing is that they reflect your taste and style. When choosing accessories, make sure they are compatible with the color and general appearance of the room. A huge vase on a tiny table could "crush" the latter, or a small object on a massive piece of furniture might seem lost.

Landscaping on a Budget
Just as in the case of your home, landscaping on a budget should not mean settling for a ragged yard. You can design an attractive garden and save money at the same time by choosing the right plants and containers. Propagating your own plants is very rewarding and it will save you plenty of money in the long run. Instead of paying for seed trays or plastic plant pots, you can use plastic food containers. Actually, almost anything can be used as a container as long as you have enough room to hold enough potting compost and have drainage holes in order to avoid plating from becoming waterlogged. You can also add some style to your plastic containers by using some leftover paint for a colorful mosaic of pots.
