Bedroom

Your bedroom should be a pleasant refuge, where you can freely create your own world without having to worry at all about the outside world. It is the space in which you rest, sleep, read and relax. Of all the rooms in your house, the bedroom is the most private one, a room in which you can be yourself because it is not exposed to social life (unlike your living room for example). This is why at the time you organize your bedroom, you can go with your personal instinct to choose how to furnish it without necessarily having to follow the latest trends in decoration.

Bedroom Decorating Tips

The bed is the most important furniture for any bedroom. The better the bed is, the more you will relax and you will avoid forced positions. Select the sheets for your bed carefully, in order to feel protected from the hectic life that you may lead. A bed coverage from your mother, white sheets that remind you of your childhood, all these will make you feel close to people who love you. Feel free to have lots of pillows, as they offer a sense of emotional comfort and warmth. On the bedside table, right next to your bed, you may choose to have a nice image to look at before you go to sleep. This may include a photo of a relative or a beautiful landscape for example. It is important to pay attention to lighting when decorating your bedroom. It is recommended to have three points of light in your room, as they will permit you to play with the lighting at various times of day and according to the activity you want to achieve: reading, relaxing or sleeping.

The bedroom is also the ideal room to create your "personal area" in the house, in which you will have objects impregnated with tenderness, such as photo frames, a collection of books, a jewelry box, a painting etc. You can bring them together in a single cabinet or shelf to keep the impression of an oasis that exudes serenity and avoid the impression of overloading.

As for the walls, it is advisable to use shades of cream, pale orange and earth tones to create a space that is both relaxing and welcoming. Avoid painting your walls in bright colors, because they can give a too aggressive result under artificial lights. Little details such as scented candles or small aromatic bags can add special touch to your bedroom (smells of cedar and lavender are conducive to sleep for example).

Bedroom Organization Ideas

Bedrooms are supposed to be sanctuaries where you should relax and re-energize after a busy day. Disorder in this room can be a factor of disruption and can contribute to restless sleep or to annoying moments such as searching for your favourite shirts for minutes.

The key to avoiding such disruptions is to keep the bedroom organized and break with convention. In many cases, the usual formula of bed, bed table, dresser and closet is simply not enough to stop the clutter from accumulating in the bedroom. For instance, a nightstand that has no real purpose in your bedroom may become just another cluttered surface. A closet that is not carefully organized is another source of clutter, so it makes sense to reorganize it by using additional shelving in order to store clothes outside it.

Bedrooms need plenty of shelves, drawers and wardrobe space in order to be kept organized. Make sure that the nightstands have at least one drawer for personal items and for storing magazines and books that seem to accumulate day by day. Each cabinet requires enough space to hang clothes but you should also consider shelves for your folded clothes. There are a variety of closet organizational systems on the market to choose from. You can always choose the components that meet your own particular needs.
