How to buy a Bed Skirt

A bed skirt is a piece of custom bedding cloth that covers the box spring and the bed frame as well as the space under it up to the floor. The purpose of using a bed skirt is both decorative, as it gives the bed a fashionable look, and functional, because it slows the accumulation of dust under the bed.

There are mainly two types of bed skirts to choose from. Most of them are either pleated or ruffled bed skirts. Pleated bed skirts are made of flat panels of fabric with two or three slots on each side. A ruffled bed skirt is a uninterrupted piece of fabric that goes around the two sides of the bed, which is sewn with a pattern on top of the ruffled bed skirt.

Before you buy your bed skirt, decide what type you want and choose the right size. To find the perfect size you will need for your bed skirt, you should start by measuring the height from the floor to the top of the mattress. If you’re opting for a pleated skirt, subtract at least 1 inch of height so that the bed skirt does not touch the ground. If you are looking to buy a crumpled skirt, the traditional style is for it not to touch the floor, but the latest fashion trends have favored the latter allowing the bed skirt to flow on the floor 2 or 3 inches.
