Meat Slicers

Meat slicers are not only designed for professional kitchens and delis. There are multiple models available on the market that are designed for domestic kitchens, from consumer brands including Chef’s Choice, Rival, Nesco, Waring Pro and Deni. Slicers can be used for meat, but also for bread, cheese and vegetables. They are also a very convenient way of slicing homemade roasts.

Choosing Meat Slicers for Your Kitchen

There are two things that you need to take into account when choosing meat slicers: the blade diameter and power. Power is important as it will prevent the blades to get stuck in the food. Most consumer models of meat slicers have a power range of 75 to 200 watts. As for blades, they vary between 6 to 9 inches in diameter. If you purchase a model with large blades, you will be able to slice large pieces of food.

When you consider purchasing a meat slicer, you should look for some specific features. A built-in sharpener will sharpen the blade as they turn, thus saving you the trouble of having them sharpened.  You should also consider a rigid black plate, which will allow you to cut very thin slices. A thickness scale is useful for even slices.

As the meat slicer needs to be washed or at least wiped up after each use, make sure you buy a device that is easy to clean and the blades can be easily removed.
