Microwave Ovens

Microwave ovens are ideal for heating, defrosting and even cooking food. Classical models allow the user to defrost and reheat cooked food. When fitted with a grill, they allow the preparation of casseroles and reheating pizza or pastries. If you choose a model with convection, you can prepare cakes, casseroles and even cook meat.

A Buying Guide for Microwave Ovens

A microwave oven can be a significant saving of space in a small kitchen. On the functional side, choose a model with a hotkey if you like to be able to quickly warm a cup of coffee or a meal when you are short on time. You should also be interested in the diameter of the plate. Finally, note that there are different types of lining (epoxy, stainless steel, enamel or ceramic glaze) and programming (mechanical, electromechanical and electronic).

Power

Power is dependent on the wave generator and the volume: for a given generator you get a high power in a small volume and low power in a large volume. A power of 800 watts is sufficient for most uses, even if many products are going up to 1000 watts. The wave generator is sensitive to metal, so use only special utensils for microwave.

Types of cooking

If you only want to heat food, a simple model of microwave should be enough, as it will allow you to defrost, heat, cook rice, vegetables, fish and even make some cakes. However, it is impossible to cook meat in a microwave oven and get the same taste and flavour as in a traditional oven. In order to prepare meat, pizzas or quickes, you need a model with a grill or convection.

Freestanding or built-in?

If you have the option to embed a microwave oven in your kitchen, you can choose a specific model and purchase an optional mount kit for it. If you design a kitchen that has an integrated oven, you should make plan a niche for it.
