Cabinets & Chests

A chest can be an invaluable accent in the living room.  The living room is used for living – and living often involves having things lying around that we enjoy – like magazines, books, video games, and so forth.  A chest in the living room can give you handy storage for these types of items while also being super decorative. In fact, some folks use a chest in lieu of a traditional “coffee” table or “cocktail” table in the living room.  Depending on the type of chest that you purchase, you can also use the chest as supplemental seating for those times that you have additional guests and run out of room for everyone to have a seat.

When selecting a chest for your living room, be sure to think about the quality of the item.  While a cheap chest may be aesthetically appealing, if it won’t hold up to the use and abuse that an active family can throw at it, then you may not be getting a good deal. On the other hand, if you don’t have kids running around the house, you might be able to use a cheaper, lesser quality chest since it won’t be opened and closed as much!  Either way, look for a living room chest that accentuates the other furniture in the space, and if your room has woods in it, then coordinate the chest with the wood species that is used in your space.
