How far back you want the recliner to go.  Not all recliners have the same mechanisms that determine how reclined you can actually get.  Some go all the way back, almost like a bed, while others only lean back half way.  A semi-recline position can allow you to lean back somewhat, but not even half way.  The recliner that goes all the way back will obviously require more space within your room as it can’t be impeded by a wall or other furniture.
Decide whether you want a freestanding recliner or one that is attached to a sectional couch grouping.
Select the right fabric for your needs.  Recliners are available in every type of fabric and material from leather to suede and everything in between.  Leather is elegant and adds a bit of a masculine feel to your room, while being cool during the summer and fairly simple to keep clean.  Soft fabrics like cotton or chenille are a bit more feminine and can bring a feminine look to your space.

No matter which recliner you choose, go for quality.  Paying a bit more now may mean that your recliner lasts for years longer than a cheaper option.
