A sofa table can be a beautiful and fitting option for nearly any living room, den, rec room, family room, or other space where you have a sofa in place. The sofa table is particularly useful for those sofas that do not rest against the wall. The sofa table is typically positioned at the back of the sofa and is highly decorative in this position, although you can use the sofa table anywhere that you choose to. When selecting the right sofa table for your needs, take the size of the table, the type of table you want to buy, the style of your home, and your budget into consideration.
Size. Before falling in love with any particular sofa table, measure your sofa to make sure that it will not be too tall or too short for the sofa table. If so, your guests on the sofa may accidentally knock their head on a table that is too high, or if it is too broad, it can look out of place and ill-planned. Make sure that the table is wide enough, though, to hold whatever objects you have planned to display upon it.
Types. Some folks think of the sofa table as a piece of furniture that is put in place for its functionality. Other people consider this type of table to be merely decorative. There are two types of sofa tables that you can typically choose from: sofa tables with drawers or sofa tables without drawers. A sofa table usually also has a bottom shelf, which can be used for holding decorative items.
Construction material. You will find a wide array of materials being used for constructing sofa tables, including wood, metal, and glass. Wood is always nice, and can be coordinated to match other wood pieces in the room, such as your coffee or end tables, mantel, and so on. Metal can be great for those areas of the home where you have a modern or contemporary look, as can glass.
