How to Choose Sundials
Many types of sundials are built from different materials. You can decide the material according to your own preferences l and you can choose from aluminum, stone, cast iron, bronze, stainless steel or terra cotta. Some models are designed to be placed in the ground and some are upright and others horizontal.
Don’t forget that a sundial is expected to function during the entire year, but only according to the weather conditions. Some sundials are delivered on a pedestal and others must be set on a sturdy surface. There are many modern versions that came up with interesting designs. Old garden sundials can be purchased as well, as long as you want to invest more in the design of the garden.
When you have in mind to choose sundial, don’t forget that it will be the central point in your yard, so try to select one that fits in the design of your garden. Sundials reflect the culture and history of the geographical area from where they come from. As an example, there are sundials that feature ancient Roman numerical designs, yearly seasons designs, Celtic designs, zodiac astrological drawings, French Romanesque designs, poetic inscriptions, maritime themes, heavenly images and spiritual connotations. You must pay attention at the location you will select for sundial inside the garden. If there is not a portable one, it should stay away from growing shrubs and should be placed in an area with very good sun light. The garden is the reflection of your personality, so choose a sundial that expresses this.
